Box2Beat Ovarian Cancer - 3 hour Boxathon!

March is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and the charity Ovarian Cancer Action have set up a nationwide campaign called Box2Beat Cancer and have asked Boxercise instructors all over the UK to get involved.

To help do my bit, I'm hosting a ONE OFF, 3 hour long Boxathon on Saturday 28th March, 1pm-4pm at Epiphany School. ALL the money raised will be going straight to Ovarian Cancer Action, places are limited on the day so book your place for just £15 by clicking here.

What will the 3 hour long Boxathon include?

Don't worry if it sounds awful! There will be plenty of breaks and if you've never tried boxing before it'll be the perfect introduction. The session will start with a cardio warm up to prepare your body, modifications are always given so that all fitness levels are able to take part. We'll then do a few circuit style exercises, the kind boxers put into their training regimes to keep them fit (don't worry, again modifications will be available) before moving on to learning some punches. We'll go over technique and then pair up and hit some focus pads (we don't hit each other)! Once we've all thrown some punches and let off some steam we'll move on to doing some punching challenges and learn some combo's! You won't need your own pair of gloves to attend, but it is recommended. You'll also need to bring plenty of water, a towel, a light snack and maybe a change of clothing.

Why Boxing?

Ovarian Cancer Action have set up the Box2Beat event as a national fundraising campaign. They have asked Boxercise instructors all over the UK to get involved for this great cause. Apart from that though, Boxercise is such a fun workout and can offer the following to participants:

  • It burns around 800 calories per hour
  • Gives you an all round workout without getting hit
  • Suitable for all ages (16+)
  • Popular with both men and women
  • Tone up the wobbly bits
  • Get super fit
  • Improve hand eye coordination
  • Increase strength
  • It’s a great stress buster
  • It’s fun!

Who can take part?

Any fitness level can take part as modifications are always given. You choose how hard to push yourself, but remember it's a 3 hour long class! If you a pregnant, unfortunately you will not be permitted to attend and if you have any medical conditions or injuries that would effect your participation you will need to get in touch BEFORE booking your place.

I've done boxing before - Is this a competition?

No... This is a FITNESS class, incorporating the training techniques boxers use to keep fit, and all punches make contact with focus pads, not each other. Overall this is a great introduction to Boxercise, having fun and raising money for a brilliant charity.

Of course ALL levels of fitness are welcome, and that includes anyone who has boxed both for fitness and for competition but this class will not be suitable for anyone who wishes to use it as a sparring session. Just come along, have a good workout and hit a few focus pads :-)

What do I need to bring?

  • Water
  • A towel
  • A light snack or protein shake
  • Change of clothes if needed
  • Gloves if you have them (if not spare gloves will be available for you to use)
  • Any sponsorship money you've collected
  • Screening form (emailed to you after you've booked)
  • Any raffle tickets purchased

When will I need to book and how do I pay?

If you wish to attend this event it is recommended that you book your place ASAP by clicking here.

You will be taken to a booking website where you will be asked to fill in your details. Once you have reserved your place you will be given a unique booking reference and further instructions on how to pay. You will need to book your place by making a £15 donation to Ovarian Cancer Action via the JustGiving fundraising page. You will need to enter your unique booking reference and full name when completing your donation.

Booking via donation means your ticket money goes direct to the charity. Please do not pay me via cash/bank account. Due to the way payment is taken, refunds will not be available, however if you wish to transfer your place to another person, please contact me giving a minimum of 48 hours notice prior to the event.

Where and when?

Saturday 28th March, 1pm-4pm at Epiphany Primary School, Shillingstone Drive, BH9 3PE. Booking required.

How much money are we hoping to raise?

I'd love to raise as much money as possible! For that reason places are being sold for £15 each. I'm then allocating everyone who is taking part a £35 fundraising target. It's up to you how much you raise; the target it optional so if you don't raise £35 don't worry. I'm sure they'll be others who can raise more than £35... Every little helps!

Nationwide the charity are hoping to raise £50,000!

When asking for sponsorship, tell your friends and family about the charity, about the symptoms of ovarian cancer and also the fact that you'll be boxing for 3 hours! That deserves a sponsorship of at least £1 per hour... surely! More than anything this event is about saving lives and raising awareness so just do what you can!

A raffle will also be available on the day. I'm currently looking for prizes to add to it, if you or any local business would like to donate something, it'd be really appreciated. Please email me.
