Fitness Quest Membership - Four weeks begin 20th July

When?

The next four week Fitness Quest Membership starts on Monday 20th July and ends on Sunday 16th August.

How much?

It's £25 for the four weeks, no commitment to sign up again after it ends.

What is it?

I've been adapting the membership slightly since we began lockdown, taking member feedback into consideration. Along with a support network, and priority access to in person classes (when they are allowed to return), the membership provides the following:
  • Unlimited access to the live class timetable, brought to you via Zoom (see timetable below).
  • Catch up with HIIT and Boxercise HIIT for up to 7 days after the live class, at a time convenient to you.
  • On demand access to a 40-45 minute PiYo session, one routine added to the library per week starting 6th July, these sessions can be accessed as often as you want, to do whenever you can.
  • On demand access to short stretch routines. As with PiYo, these are added to a library, you can choose which session to do, whenever you wish. These are simple yet effective stretches which focus on the most common stiff areas such as hips, lower back and shoulders.
  • Workout of the week (WOW). This is a weekly workout for those who fancy an extra challenge and something to do in their own time. You can adapt and modify the workout depending on your fitness level and available equipment.
  • Access to a private Facebook group where other tips and challenges are provided, also forming the main platform for our support network.
  • Potential for small in person fitness groups on private, outside land only (such as gardens). Social distancing must be maintained and the member who wishes to host the session must arrange with the other members and agree a suitable time with myself. If social distancing rules are broken, these sessions will no longer be offered.
  • A 20% discount on any further virtual Fitness Quest services such as exercise programming.

If you would like to book a place for the block starting on 20th July, please email info@fitnessquest.co.uk

Thanks again for all of your continued support, it's very much appreciated during these tough times!

Why should you join?

I've now been running my classes virtually for over four weeks and everyone is loving keeping their fitness routine going. Now more than ever, staying fit is so important, not just for physical health but mental health. The Fitness Quest members love seeing each other (I give you the option to stay and chat at the end) and being in a virtual class allows me to keep an eye on you during your workouts too and provide verbal feedback to improve your workout experience (much like in a face to face class). I also take into consideration member requests for exercises and stretches when planning the classes, making them feel more bespoke for you all.

I'm only taking on a maximum of 10 more members for the May intake to ensure I don't overcrowd my screen and continue to offer quality coaching based on what I can see you all doing.

Before teaching virtually, I had taught fitness classes since 2008 and have been a Personal Trainer since 2005. I'm also a qualified level 4 strength and conditioning coach, and hold certifications in many fitness programmes. I'm fully insured to teach online, registered with REP's and first aid trained. I'm finishing my 3 year BSc Nutrition (Hons) degree at Bournemouth University, and am currently studying to become a qualified Pilates instructor. You're continued support over the forthcoming weeks and months helps to keep my little business running by enabling me to pay for the costs which continue even when I can't teach in person and invest back into Fitness Quest and my own knowledge to improve the help and expertise I can offer to my lovely members.

How can you join?

If you would like to join, or have any questions about joining you can email me. Let me know if you would like to try a class before committing and I can forward you a link.

Once you have joined, you will gain access to a Facebook group with the meeting access details, the Facebook group will also act as a back up if Zoom fails us (hasn't happened yet). If you don't have Facebook I can email you the meeting information to keep safe, but please subscribe to this website in case of any emergency announcements.

The sessions are held via Zoom, you will need access to internet and a device with a camera (smartphone/laptop etc). I am more than happy to talk you through how to use Zoom, although it's very simple and once you've done one class you don't even have to think about what you're doing.

You will be required to join the Zoom session on time for each class - If you are late, I won't be able to admit you to class as missing the warm up means your body isn't ready for the main workout.

**All new members will be required to complete a screening and waiver form before joining their first class**

You can read more about my reasons for taking Fitness Quest Classes Online here. I really hope you are able to join us for the next four week block starting on Monday 27th April 2020.

Stay safe, stay fit, stay healthy.

Fitness Quest Virtual Classes - How to sign up!

These past few weeks have been a really difficult time for all of us and I've been racking my brain to find a solution that I feel will be of the benefit to all of us over the coming weeks/months.

My first clarification is to remind you all that any course bookings you have made have been automatically frozen and will continue when it is safe to return. I appreciate that online classes may not be for everyone which is why I am not offering the virtual package as a replacement for courses already paid for. If you would like to try what I have on offer below please let me know, even if you just want to see how it could work (it's surprised me how much I'm enjoying it). If any of you reading this are struggling financially, please talk to me, I do not want you missing out on joining our online classes and I'm sure we can uncover some solutions.

My second point is to say that the situation we currently find ourselves in is incredibly tough, we will all have different reasons for feeling the strain, whether that is job loss or being a key worker rushed off your feet, learning to home school children and work from home, fighting illness yourself or supporting family. It is likely that many of us will find our mental health compromised and for that reason I feel it is incredibly important for us not only to exercise but to try to retain some of our regular routine. For that reason, I intend to keep the virtual class times similar to the in person classes. We have a fabulous community and I want you all to stay in contact and support one another.

My third part, and the information you came here for is below. I encourage you to read all of this post thoroughly, I cannot wait to continue bringing these classes to you!

What is the plan?

This update is long, and I apologise for that (I will try to film a video). I wanted to talk you all through my thought process and the issues I encountered coming up with this solution. Honestly, I never envisioned a time where I would have closed my business with immediate effect and I just wasn't prepared for the heartache it created. I do hope what I suggest seems exciting for you and provides you with a little glimmer of hope (or sweat).

Four week unlimited* class package
  • £20 per person for up to 5 x 30 minute classes per week (*Kettlercise is only available if you have done one of my Kettlercise courses before). Works out to £1 per class/£1.25 per class if not including Kettlercise.
  • £30 per household for up to 5 x 30 minute classes each per week (*Kettlercise is only available if you have done one of my Kettlercise courses before. All household members must be previous/existing customers).
  • These are introductory prices and will end Friday 3rd April 2020.
The Timetable

The class timetable will remain as representative of the in person timetable as possible, offering the same benefits you've come to love about each class.

Monday's (including Easter Monday although times may vary with demand):
  • 6:30pm - 7pm - Kettlercise
  • 7:30pm - 8pm - HiiT
Wednesday's:
  • 6:30pm - 7pm - Stretch & Strength
  • 7:30pm - 8pm - Sculpt & Burn
Thursday's:
  • 7pm - 7:30pm - Boxercise HIIT
I may add classes to the timetable depending on the demand, I may also need to reassess the timetable slots in a couple of weeks but I'm hoping the above times are convenient for most current attendees and closest to their regular routines.

I intend to leave the meetings open for 10-15 minutes after each class to allow you all to have a catch up and chat (you can leave if you want to) as I think this is an important part of our community network.

How will it work?

Many of you have helped me trial the classes this week. Yes we have had some teething issues but I have ruled them out my end, helped problem solve for a few of you (mainly internet strength or device) but please do bear in mind that the internet is under increased demand at the moment so we may need to have a plan B, reschedule (one attempt) or cancel the class (last resort), so with full transparency I encourage you to consider this before signing up. Even with teething issues members could follow along, had a good workout and felt those all important endorphins kick in! The last two sessions I ran have been AMAZING! So I do believe the package will offer you fantastic value for money.

You will need access to the internet and a device with a camera (smartphone/tablet/laptop etc) and either download the Zoom app or be able to open the meeting link in your web browser. It's so simple - I was so scared starting it but it is beginning to feel normal. I will happily arrange to test a meeting with anyone not sure of how it'll work.

Most of you have already completed the waiver form which is compulsory before attending a virtual class. If you have not yet completed it please do so. You only need to complete it once but if your circumstances change please inform me.

Why a four week package?

Two reasons. Simplicity and commitment

One package for all means less admin for all, including me. You will not need to book onto each class, you will be given a link to the meeting room which will remain the same for each class for four weeks. This means that you can decide at short notice whether or not you can jump into the virtual class, perfect with many of you juggling everything from home at the moment.

Commitment is also vital right now... Motivation will begin to fade as the weeks go by and I need you guys to stay determined and strong so that when we can get back to classes you are raring to go. Remember that mental health affects people in different ways, it's important to feel committed to your routine to give your mental wellbeing a boost too.

It also allows me to plan financially. Having closed the business I have lost all my income and I still have business overheads to cover, which I cannot cancel if I wish to return to teaching when this ends. I have two options, try to make an online income to cover these costs or find alternative employment during the weeks/months I cannot teach you in person. I have thought long and hard about the fairest way to run this. I dismissed class passes because of admin and needing you to book each session. I decided against pay as you go as I would need to charge more to allow for the uncertainty of booking numbers. I thought about discounts for block booking but this became too complicated with 5 different classes on offer. In the end I decided four weeks to be the ideal combination (even once a week is just £5 per class). That being said, as I've already mentioned above, if you have been financially impacted by COVID-19, please get in touch, I know how hard it is.

Will virtual classes continue?

I will reassess the situation continuously and extend the virtual class packages for as long as they remain viable and required. I have already had interest from those who have tried the classes this week in keeping them going once we return to in person classes - Let's see! I may add some virtual classes to the permanent timetable!

I know that was a VERY long post, I could have simply stated the package but feel you all deserve to understand the reasoning behind how it'll work. The package is only available to current or previous members and Fitness Quest would not have survived this far if it were not for all your amazing faces turning up over the years.

I promise you all when we are back, it's going to be amazing, but in the meantime, let's not stop the party.

To book your place at the introductory offer price available until Friday 3rd April please email info@fitnessquest.co.uk

Prices as of 4th April expected to be £25 individual/£35 household but this is subject to change.

If you've read this far, give yourself a round of applause. See you next week.

Thank you so much.

Vicki

Summer Dates

As most of you know I'm now in my second year of my nutrition degree at Bournemouth Uni and this summer I will be undertaking my placement. Whilst I hope to plan well in advance any classes that will need to be cancelled to accommodate my placement, please keep an eye on the website and Facebook page for any changes to course dates that may be unavoidable. There will also be no classes on Monday 26th August 2019.

Epiphany Car Park

Please could everyone who parks their car at Epiphany Primary school for classes ensure they DO NOT drive out of the entrance when they leave. If you need directions to the exit please ask at class.

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is always in the media for its fat burning and body shaping benefits, and I've always incorporated it into many of my classes. Usually combined with my bootcamps or as a part of my popular sculpt and burn class, I've now decided to give HIIT its own slot on my timetable. I offer varying difficulty levels to adapt to all fitness ranges, so each and every one of you can work to your own ability. Performing body weight exercises, you can choose the high impact or low impact options and everyone will leave having had a great workout. It's also only a 30 minute class, so a great option for anyone looking for a quick blast.

There are varying price scales, pay as you go for those who can't commit to attending each week, block booking for those who can and a further discount for anyone who already attends Kettlercise and wants to stay on for the double!

KETTLERCISE

Kettlercise® covers a huge range of 37 kettlebell exercises ranging from basic moves to more advanced techniques, from high energy pulse raises to being able to place extra emphasis on target muscle groups like abs, glutes, arms and thighs and all with maximum effectiveness. It will not only destroy unwanted body fat but completely shape your body!

    PiYO

PiYo is a group fitness class inspired by Pilates and Yoga. It's a full body workout designed to improve your strength and flexibility. Although inspired by Pilates and Yoga, forget everything you know about these techniques... PiYo is a whole new format in it's own right. I've never taught anything quite like it, you can certainly feel it challenging your muscles in ways you've never felt them work before! Putting together our PiYo poses, we are constantly flowing from one move to another, ensuring you don't stay still. This makes PiYo not only great for strength and flexibility but also calorie burn (there will be lots of sweat)!

During a PiYo live class, we'll complete a series of tracks such as a warm up, heat building, lower body, full body fusion etc. All of these tracks are done to an upbeat soundtrack, so no whale music, as lovely as it is ;-) It's all low impact (with the option to add in a few jumps), and involves no weights, just your own body.

    • Current course finishes 18th September 2019.
    • 8 Week Course starts Wednesday 25th September 2019 - 13th November 2019, 6:30pm - 7:30pm, Epiphany Primary School, Muscliff, BH9 3PE, £48. Early bird price of £40 applies to payments made before 11th September 2019, email info@fitnessquest.co.uk to book at early bird price.
    Please email info@fitnessquest.co.uk to book.

SCULPT & BURN (SMALL GROUP TRAINING - 8 PLACES ONLY)

This is a brand new concept, devised by myself and it will target both muscle toning and strength as well as calorie burning HIIT exercises. The class will be limited to 8 exclusive places which will allow me to bring along a variety of weighted equipment giving the class a bootcampy feel and getting even better muscle sculpting and calorie burning results. The course will also offer exclusive use of the body composition scales on weeks one and eight.

You will still get a few rounds of HIIT (high intensity interval training) in each class followed by a variety of strength and conditioning exercises which vary weekly. Combining these two types of training styles will maximise all round results. This class is ideal for those with a moderate to high fitness level and people looking for a physical challenge.
    • Current course finishes 18th September 2019.
    • 8 Week Course starts Wednesday 25th September 2019 - 13th November 2019, 7:35pm - 8:20pm, Epiphany Primary School, Muscliff, BH9 3PE, £48. Early bird price of £40 applies to payments made before 11th September 2019, email info@fitnessquest.co.uk to book at early bird price.

HIIT vs Bootcamp - Changes for September!

    What is it?

HIIT vs Bootcamp has been a popular addition to the Fitness Quest timetable since 2014 - Acting as a super fat burning start to the weekend!

HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), has seen a massive boost in popularity over the recent years, with all of the fitness magazines promoting their own versions, along with celebs and their personal trainers and loads of YouTube videos going viral.

HIIT is one of the most effective fat burning exercises out there, not only because of the intensity of your workout, but the fact it raises your metabolism so you continue to burn extra calories for up to 24 hours post workout too! HIIT sessions can also be completed without any equipment (think jogging on the spot and star jumps) and can last as little as 10 minutes.

    Who can do it?

The beauty of HIIT, is that anyone can do it. The idea is that you work to around 80% of your maximum level, and that means everyone will look different doing the same exercise, and that's absolutely fine. Whilst sprinting on the spot might feel like 80% max effort for one person, another person might find that a slow march gets them sweaty and out of breath.

How do I currently run the classes?

Currently, I combine my HIIT and Bootcamp sessions, as I feel they compliment each other well. The HIIT is the fat burning, cardio heavy part of the class whilst bootcamp is the more fun, toning and team challenge half. HIIT is easily modified to suit any level of fitness as I offer various versions of exercises, both non impact and impact (and high impact for the super fit). There's always a short break between HIIT and bootcamp, and then a fun rewarm before we get started again, Each week the HIIT exercises and bootcamp plans are completely different, so you're always kept guessing.

I also include the use of the body composition scales on the first and last week of each course, so you can keep track of your fat & muscle percentage as well as lots of other stats, click here for more information on composition testing.

    How's it changing?

I intend to keep both classes running on my Saturday morning slot (10:30am-12pm) but to open up HIIT as a stand alone class for those who want:

    A) To finish by 11:15am on a Saturday
    B) Don't feel they're ready to take part in bootcamp (see below)

By offering HIIT as a stand alone option, I hope more of you will be tempted to give it a go, without the added pressure of a tough bootcamp straight after! The HIIT class will run from 10:30am-11:15am and six weeks will cost £30. Places must be booked in advance.

    What about Bootcamp?

As of September, my aim is to make Bootcamp a little more challenging, a bit more in keeping with what a great bootcamp should be... Lots of equipment to play with, team challenges, technique drills etc. Think superhuman vs crossfit WOD's! Due to this, bootcamp will not be available as a stand alone option, as you will need to be warm from the HIIT class to be able to participate. The cost of a six week HIIT vs Bootcamp course will REMAIN at the CURRENT price of just £40. Composition testing will also remain as an added bonus.

    Can I do Bootcamp?

Currently, bootcamp is suitable for all fitness levels, due to the modifications I offer. From September I would recommend the bootcamp part of this class to those with average to good fitness levels, modifications will still be available and will include:
    • Half press ups instead of full press ups
    • Stepping burpees instead of jumping them
    • Smaller box jumps
    • Lighter weights
In keeping with the tougher plans I have for bootcamp, I would expect you to modify, but at least attempt the modified option available. You may also be working as a part of a team/partnership.

If you are new to classes and currently unsure of your fitness levels, you could just do HIIT for the first course, improve your fitness and aim to join bootcamp on your second course.

If you have any medical conditions or injuries, please speak to your doctor and myself before signing up.

Why am I changing the format?

Firstly to freshen the class up a bit, the old format has worked well for over two years but it's time to progress the class and move on to new challenges.

Secondly, it opens the HIIT part of this class up to more people, which I truly believe is an invaluable exercise class for people of all fitness levels, one which is also incredibly effective at fat burning and improving fitness. The bootcamp part of this class has often scared people off, as has the later finish time.

Finally, it gives bootcamp the potential to be a really tough class. I competed at the Superhuman games this year and loved it. Bootcamp is a great class for me to be able to bring some of this training straight to you. We're attending Superhuman in Bristol next year and we're taking a Fitness Quest team. Anyone who's interested in pushing their physical boundaries will find this class a great addition to their exercise routine, especially those in training for next years games! April INSANITY - Incredible Spring OFFER, just £1.67 per class!

The sun has been shining this week and it feels as if Spring is well and truly on it's way - Hurrah! With the lighter evenings just around the corner and the demand for those Summer bodies imminent I've decided to offer you a cracking deal on my INSANITY classes - 9 sessions for just £15!

What is INSANITY and who can do it?

Insanity is one of the best known fitness brands, mainly because of it's popularity as the successful at home, workout DVD. However, INSANITY has evolved a lot since the launch of the live classes, making it adaptable for ALL fitness levels. Don't get me wrong, it's still a tough class but with the additions of modifications for all exercise and a qualified trainer (me) to help you get through the session; you have nothing to worry about (unless you want a challenge)!

INSANITY is similar to HIIT/tabata style classes but uses maximal interval training, which basically means you're in your fat burning zone for the entire class and then continue to burn extra calories for up to 24 hours post workout. As well as fat burn, INSANITY is amazing for overall fitness and toning up those muscles - Leaving nothing unworked...

You only work to your ability, and I always advise during your first session you use the modifications available and get used to the exercises and format, including when you get breaks. Each exercise is performed 3 times during the session, so if you didn't work hard enough first time, there's always the second or third set, or even next week!

I run the INSANITY rounds for a duration of 5-6 weeks, this allows each participant the opportunity to get used to the exercises, progress, and then push as hard as they can as each week goes by. Then once it starts feeling a bit easier, I change it up, always keeping you on your toes and challenging different muscle groups.

I get a wide variety of participants at class, there are many mums there who have various goals from shifting the baby weight to marathon training, there are men too, and people of all ages join in (over 18's only). If you do have any injuries or medical conditions please let me know though, before class so that I can explain any exercises that might not be safe for you, and what you can do instead.

    What's the offer then?

For just £15, you'll get the best kick start to your summer body you've EVER had! You'll receive the following 9 classes (they are non transferable or refundable), that's just £1.67 per session:

    • Tuesday 5th April, 8:15pm-8:45pm, Muscliff Primary School, BH8 0AB
    • Wednesday 6th April, 7:35pm-8:25pm, Epiphany Primary School, BH9 3PE
    • Thursday 7th April, 6:15pm-6:45pm, Winton Primary School, BH9 2TG
    • Tuesday 12th April, 8:15pm-8:45pm, Muscliff Primary School, BH8 0AB
    • Wednesday 13th April, 7:35pm-8:25pm, Epiphany Primary School, BH9 3PE
    • Thursday 14th April, 6:15pm-6:45pm, Winton Primary School, BH9 2TG
    • Tuesday 19th April, 8:15pm-8:45pm, Muscliff Primary School, BH8 0AB
    • Wednesday 20th April, 7:35pm-8:25pm, Epiphany Primary School, BH9 3PE
    • Thursday 21st April, 6:15pm-6:45pm, Winton Primary School, BH9 2TG

Even if you can't attend every session this is still a great offer, firstly because you'll be saving a total of £18, secondly because signing up to classes in advance gets better results through better commitment (you've paid so you'll go), and finally this offer coincides with the start of two brand new rounds! Tuesday and Wednesday will be on round 17 and Thursday will be on round 16!

If you'd like to claim this offer, be quick as there are limited places: click here to book.

If you have any questions or concerns please get in touch via email and I'll be happy to help.

    What is PiYo?

    What is PiYo?

Here's a video, please watch it as it'll give you a really good idea of what's involved:

    When will the classes start?

I've decided to run my PiYo class as a 6 week course, starting on Friday 17th July, 6:30pm at Epiphany School, BH9 3PE. I'm hoping running this course will allow me to gauge the popularity of the programme, and whether or not a timetable change is in order to accommodate PiYo on another night. The course will cost £40, this includes your own foam roller. If you already have a foam roller please let me know. Please email info@fitnessquest.co.uk to book your place.

The 6 week course will comprise of a 40-45 minute PiYo class, followed by 15 minutes of foam rolling and stretching to further improve our flexibility. By running the classes this way, should you need to leave after PiYo, you can do, however I would strongly advise you staying for the foam rolling as it's really beneficial.

    FAQ's

Since becoming a certified PiYo live instructor on 24th May, there's been a lot of interest in the class, but also a few questions, of which I hope you'll find the answers below. If you have any more questions please get in touch.

Can I do PiYo if I have weak wrists and knees?

If you have watch the video above, you'll notice that we aim to do a lot of moves on our wrists and knees and also quite a lot of squats and lunges. If you have any medical conditions such as arthritis or a previous injury that causes pain, then I'd advise you to ask your GP about the suitability of a Pilates/Yoga inspired class. However, if your GP has advise that it is a flexibility or strength issue causing the weakness then PiYo could be great as that's what the class aims to improve. Modifications are availably, and you only do what you can, resting as often as you need. The idea being you'll see yourself improve week after week. Just remember that as with any exercise programme, it takes time to get used to and not to push too hard too soon. Should you develop any pains during the class please let me know.

Am I too old/unfit for PiYo?

As with the previous answer, watch the video and bear in mind that modifications are available. Saying that, the class is quite fast paced, and unlike Kettlercise and Insanity where I show you the exercise, then the modification, then walk the room correcting technique, I will also be doing the workout with you. As the weeks go by, we will be progressing. It will be up to you if you wish to progress with me, or whether you prefer sticking to the previous weeks work load. I honestly don't mind if you have to do something different if you cant do a particular exercise - It's your workout, enjoy it. However YOU must be ok with the fact you are modifying and you don't look the same to the person in front of you, just like they wont look the same as their neighbour, and so on. If at any point you need a drink break or to sit back into "childs pose" (or rest stretch), that is also fine. Remember:

"You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great"

I've tried Pilates/Yoga and found it too boring, will I enjoy PiYo?

Hopefully! The only way to find out for sure is to try it! The creator of PiYo, Charlene Johnson, came up with the idea because she also found traditional classes boring and wanted something that flowed, but still worked all the key muscle groups.

What will I need to bring?

For the course starting in July, you'll need your foam roller (included in course price), a Yoga mat (the school mats are too bulky), a towel and some water. You should be wearing comfortable exercise clothing, preferably tight bottoms as flappy bits get annoying, and barefoot training is recommended although not compulsory. Not likely to be an issue over summer months but you may wish to bring a jumper with you for the cool down/foam rolling in case you get cold.

Will you be starting PiYo on another day as I can't do Fridays?

My timetable is currently full Monday-Thursday so it really depends on the success and feedback I achieve from the Friday class.

How many calories will I burn?

This is specific to you; your metabolism, your effort level at class etc. Beachbody have stated that PiYo can burn as many calories as an INSANITY class... Up to 1000 per hour. So rest assured that you'll get a great workout regardless of how many calories you actually burn.

    Do I need good co-ordination?

No. I don't expect any of you to go away masters of PiYo after one week. The routine will stay the same for the entire course, so you know what to expect, you can improve each week.

What's the minimum age and can my children come and watch?

The minimum age for PiYo is 18. Unfortunately children cannot watch due to health and safety.

I'm in! Remind me when, where and how much?

    Six week course starting:

    Friday 17th July 6:30pm-7:30pm
    Epiphany Primary School
    Muscliff
    BH9 3PE
    £40 (including foam roller)
Booking requires payment in full, please email info@fitnessquest.co.uk to book

I'm so excited to be bringing this programme to you, if you have any further questions please get in touch.
