COVID-19 UPDATE - ALL CLASSES SUSPENDED AS OF 20TH MARCH 2020

IMPORTANT NOTICE

On Wednesday 18th March, just before the government announced school closures, I made the moral decision to close all of my in person classes for the foreseeable future. I have taken as many precautions over the past couple of weeks that I feel I could, such as enforcing hand washing, asking people to refrain from attending if they are poorly or if they have had contact with someone poorly, operating at a reduced capacity and planning classes to minimise contact with the floor and equipment (unless you bring your own).

Therefore, my final class until further notice will be held on Thursday 19th March 2020.

This has been an extremely difficult and stressful time for all of us and I would like to thank you all for your continued support. I sincerely hope that as a global community we can overcome this pandemic as soon as possible and we will return as soon as it is safe to do so.

In the meantime, I hope to start streaming online classes for my existing members from week commencing 23rd March - I will update as soon as possible, but please ensure you are following on Facebook to received the updates as soon as I have them.

If you have paid for a current or upcoming course/block, I have automatically paused your classes as of 20th March 2020 and all remaining classes will be available to you as soon as we can return to in person classes, I hope this is ok with you all. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Boxercise

Next 8 week course begins on Tuesday 4th February 2014, 7pm at Muscliff School.

This course is a fun and effective way to train the way boxers do to get into tip top condition! A general warm up followed by circuits uses all of your major muscle groups, working on your fitness, muscle strength, fat loss, stamina and coordination. We then move on to pad work; pairing up with a partner and learning punches and combo’s to throw together to maximise calorie burn and it’s also a great way to reduce stress!

8 week course is £60, this fee includes your own pair of gloves and wraps to keep. Rejoining fee is £40. Places must be booked in advance.

HIIT vs Bootcamp – The Ultimate Weekend Fat Buster!

Six week course starts Saturday 8th February, 10:30am (optional weigh in starts from 10am) at Epiphany School.

This six week course will be the ultimate class to kick start your weekend. Interval training maximises calorie burn for up to 24 hours after you’ve finished exercising – Perfect for the weekend!

HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is one of the top rated classes for 2014, so I’ve decided why not run it alongside a popular favourite... Bootcamp! HIIT vs Bootcamp will be a 90 minute class, but due to this following an interval formula, there will be plenty of rest periods, unlike Kettlercise for example. HIIT is especially adaptable to suit all levels of fitness, as I always offer level one, two and three options, giving you control of your overall workout. Bootcamp will concentrate more on the muscle workout, combining body weight exercises with boxing, kettlebells and plenty of core work!

Starting in February this course has come at a perfect time for those wanting to shift excess Christmas weight!

Six weeks of 90 minute classes will cost £40. Please book in advance.

For those unable to attend a 90 minute class due to health concerns, the HIIT or Bootcamp options can be attended individually at a cost of £30 for the six weeks, please speak to me about this option if you are worried about the 90 minute class.

KETTLERCISE

Two six week courses starting in February 2014. £30 per course or both for £50:

Monday 3rd February, 6:30pm-7:20pm at Winton Primary School
Thursday 6th February, 7pm-7:50pm at Harewood College (Portchester School)

I only started running Kettlercise courses in October, and the feedback has been amazing. All three of my courses were fully booked, and I have now had to find bigger halls to make sure I can fit you all in! Feedback included that the class was hard work but something different to challenge each participant. Due to the intensity of the class, everyone noticed that their body fat was reduced and their shape changing for the better (this in only a few short weeks). Some started doing three sessions a week and I even had feedback that problematic knees and backs have stopped hurting or have improved!
This is the class to sign up to if your ultimate goal is to change the shape of your body and reduce fat in super fast time – However, this is probably the hardest of all of my classes and should you have any health concerns or injuries, please speak to me before signing up. No pain no gain huh?
Places must be booked in advance and you will need your own kettlebell (4kg for women and 6kg for men). I can provide you with kettlebells but if purchasing your own, please ensure it is of the cast iron variety as the plastic ones are far too bulky for this class (you will need to be able to hold the base of the bell as well as the handles).

You can turn up to any of my pay as you go classes on the day, without booking. Course places must be booked in advance and your place can only be held once payment has been received.
If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch:

Personal Training

If the above classes still don't take your fancy, why not book in a personal training session? We can design a programme to help you reach you own individual goals, working you at a pace you feel comfortable with. Please get in touch to arrange a free consultation to discuss further.

Summer 2013 Classes & Courses!

I've added a couple of courses to my Summer 2013 programme, if you'd like to join in please let me know ASAP. I asked around my current members whether they'd like to see another HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) course or Boot Camp, and they pretty much came out 50/50. Please see below for further details.

The body composition scales are available on the first and last week of each of these courses, please arrive early if you wish to use them.

BOXERCISE:

If you cant make Saturdays I would really recommend my Tuesday evening Boxercise course; it's 8 weeks long, each session is one hour, starting at 7pm. The next course starts on Tuesday 23rd July at Muscliff School. Places must be booked in advance, the fee is £60 for 8 weeks and this includes your own pair of gloves and wraps to keep. Boxercise is a great all round workout that is fun and helps to reduce stress. Popular with men and women of all ages and fitness abilities. It burns around 800 calories per hour by combining a warm up, circuit style stations and pad work.

HIIT:

High intensity interval training is ideal if you'd like to achieve maximum calorie burn in minimal time. Each session lasts 45 minutes but the hard work only lasts a total of between 3 and 6 minutes! Broken down into periods of intense exercise and rest, the session challenges your energy system to work harder, creating more calorie burn during and well after your workout! I give levels 1-3 so the class is suitable for all fitness levels, the idea is you work to your own level and not the person next to you.

I have two courses planned:

Course One: Starts Saturday 17th August, 10am at Epiphany School. Please note that this course is only four weeks long so there is a reduction from the usual fee to £15. Payment will secure your place.

Course Two: Starts Saturday 28th September, 11am at Epiphany School. This course is the full six weeks and the fee is £25. Payment will secure your place.

BOOT CAMP:

Boot camp combines all types of different exercises, from team challenges, circuits, cardio workouts, weight workouts, rope workouts and so much more. Great for burning calories, increasing fitness and muscle mass. Great fun too.

I currently have one course planned:

Starts Saturday 17th August, 11am at Epiphany School. This course is four weeks long and the fee is £15. Payment will secure your place.

PAY AS YOU GO CLASSES:

Some of you can't commit to a course over the Summer months, but have no fear, pay as you go classes are available. They include Aerobics on a Monday morning, Tuesday Morning and Wednesday evening, Bokwa on a Wednesday Evening and Boxercise on a Friday evening, for more information please click on the relevant tab above.

CLASS CANCELLATIONS:

Please note that there will be no classes on the following dates:

Aerobics:

Monday 29th July, Monday 5th August, Monday 26th August, Monday 16th September

Bokwa:

Wednesday 11th September, Wednesday 18th September

Boxercise:

Friday 2nd August, Friday 9th August, Friday 13th September.

OTHER TIPS:

If you cant make it to class, try to keep nice and active with your family and friends, walking, bike rides, outdoor games and maybe a nice swim somewhere exotic (if you're lucky). Remember though to take on board plenty of water, and fresh fruit, veg and salad to keep you well hydrated. Hopefully I'll see you all soon, and enjoy this sunshine while it lasts :-)

Six Weeks to Hiit that Fat!!!

Six weeks to Hiit that fat!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the abbreviation Hiit, it stands for High Intensity Interval Training, and is one of the next big crazes in fitness training, the reasons why I shall explain later on in this blog.

HIIT is being introduced as a six week course. Each class will be adapted to encourage you, regardless of your ability, to work at your own level so you can get the work out that’s right for you. Body composition scales will be available at the beginning of weeks one and six to track the improvement in your measurements this course has provided (these are optional but record measurements such as body fat, muscle mass and metabolic age, so are well worth a go).

What is Hiit Training?

There has been a lot of research in recent years into exercise and its fat burning effects. You may have seen some studies that have shown short bursts of anaerobic exercise to be a great way of burning off those fat calories. Well Hiit training uses this idea of short bursts of anaerobic exercise such as star jumps or power lunges alternated with lower impact aerobic exercise to act as a recovery period.

Who is is for?

Everyone! You will each be asked to push your fitness levels but adaptations will be made available. Suitable for both men and women of all ages.

How does Hiit Training work?

Without going into too much detail, Hiit Training works because of the demand you put on your muscles to cope with the intense exercise and the oxygen required by them to function. This oxygen consumption continues long after exercise (Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption or EPOC for short), meaning that after your workout your body is still working hard and burning more calories than after most other workouts.

What can you expect from the six week course?

Each class will be taught by me, Vicki and I will be encouraging each one of you to work to your maximum during the intervals. Our class will consist of a warm up followed by six to ten repetitions of high intensity exercise bursts, separated by periods of lower impact aerobic exercise for recovery, a core section and an effective cool down.

Over the six weeks each session will get slightly harder, by progressing the intensity of the exercises as well as their duration, but it shouldn’t matter too much as you’ll also notice that you’ll be getting fitter!

Benefits of Hiit:

  • Burn more calories in less time
  • Burn more calories in the 24 hours AFTER a Hiit workout
  • Lower risk of heart disease
  • Increased metabolic rate
  • Challenges your current fitness levels (so you feel fitter and less bored)
  • Helps to maintain muscle mass

Here are the Courses:
